The Sobey School of Business Commerce Society is a student run society at Saint Mary’s University whose goal is to provide students with networking opportunities, as well as business and university resources, while helping to inspire peer to peer engagement. Our 2021/2022 team is comprised of undergraduate students pursuing a commerce degree at the Sobey School of Business.
Morgan Baker-Tucker is a fourth year Commerce student at Saint Mary's, majoring in Entrepreneurship with a minor in Psychology. Morgan, originally from St. John's, Newfoundland, moved to Halifax at age 16 with hopes to eventually attend university in Nova Scotia. Morgan has been involved with intramurals on campus, and is also a T.A. for Intro to Business Management. She was excited to pursue the opportunity to be the Co-President of the Commerce Society here at SMU as it not only gives her an opportunity to showcase her skills, but also it will allow her to be more connected with the community at Saint Mary's.
Chelsea is a fourth-year student completing a double majoring in Accounting and Human Resource management with a minor in Political science. She was born and raised in Newfoundland and Labrador, and has ambitions to be a lawyer. Having come from out of province, Chelsea jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the Commerce Society so she could become more involved within her new community. As co-president she understands everyone has had a rough year and is looking forward to the opportunity to host more on campus events where restrictions allow. Manav Khera (MK) is a 3rd year student majoring in Global Business Management. Manav was born in India and left his home country in 2018 in order to challenge himself and achieve. He has been with the Commerce Society for 2 years and has loved his time with the team! A fun fact about him is that he considers himself as a nerdy athlete. He hopes to lead the students and make sure they gain valuable skills in order to become more competent.
Ishaan is a second year Bachelor's of Commerce student, majoring in Finance and Entrepreneurship. Originally from Chandigarh, India. He came to SMU for his higher studies in the January of 2020. He has been involved in on-campus activities since the very beginning, he is a residence service officer at the Loyola Residence desk, Peer Academic Tutor at the Sobey Math Help Centre and now the IT Director for the Commerce Society. Tara Haughton is a third-year Bachelor of Commerce co-op student who is majoring in accounting. Tara is originally from Oshawa, Ontario where she previously completed a diploma in Culinary Management from Durham College. She is excited to launch her new beginning in the accounting world and is hoping to become a CPA candidate post graduation. She is also looking forward to the opportunity to serve as the Financial Director of the Commerce Society where she will be responsible for organizing and reporting the finances of the society.
Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia Logan is a third year Bachelor of Commerce student pursuing a double major in management and entrepreneurship. He is excited to keep members engaged and informed as he sends the weekly newsletter and monitors the society email account. Logan intends to grow his business and networking skills during his time with the Commerce Society as he works as the Communications Director. Yasmine Hussain is a commerce student going into my final year of studies at Saint Mary’s with a major in marketing as well as a minor in criminology. She was born in Toronto but was raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She is very excited to be the Social Media Director for the Commerce Society this upcoming academic year at Saint Mary's to hopefully get the chance to get more people engaged in commerce events as due to the pandemic and everything being shifted to online has made it harder for people to be connected within events at the university.

Carmen is a third-year Commerce student majoring in Global Business Management. She grew up in Riverview, New Brunswick and hopes to work in Corporate Social Responsibility in the future. During her time at SMU, Carmen is enrolled in the Co-op program, involved with the Commerce Society while also playing for the women's Field Hockey Team. Rashae is a 4th year student majoring in Global Business Management with a minor in Spanish & Hispanic Studies. She is an international student from Nassau, The Bahamas. As she is about to enter her senior year, she was keen on becoming a member of the Executive Board for the Commerce Society as she is passionate on being an inspiration for international black students like herself to be encouraged to get involved and make themselves known in the university community. During the upcoming year, she intends to bring awareness to the many academic endeavours and scholarship opportunities made available to the members of the society that will enrich their time spent as a student under The Sobey School of Business. Sophia Hein is a fourth year commerce student taking a double major in account and finance with a minor in psychology. She was born and raised in Sackville, Nova Scotia. She is most excited to get to reconnect with commerce students this year after being online for so long. Queen-Esther is a second year student in the bachelor of commerce program that is passionate about the creative aspects of business. She grew up in Port Harcourt, Nigeria and is called Omoye (her middle name) by her friends and family. Queen-Esther is a good team player that enjoys being involved on campus through SAGA (students acting for global awareness), the pack leader program and now the commerce society.
