The Sobey School of Business Commerce Society is a student run society at Saint Mary’s University whose goal is to provide students with networking opportunities, as well as business and university resources, while helping to inspire peer to peer engagement. Our 2019/2020 team is comprised of undergraduate students pursuing a commerce degree at the Sobey School of Business.


Callie Franson is a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce student pursuing a double major in Management and Human Resource Management & Industrial Relations. She has lived in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia for her entire life and has always been eager to be involved whether it is at school, at work, or within the community. This past summer, Callie completed her third and final work term for the cooperative education program at Saint Mary's. Some of her work placements include working as a Business Analyst at both Nova Scotia Power Inc. and the Department of National Defence. Callie hopes to actively engage the entire Commerce Society, and by extension, the Sobey School, in developing their connections and enhancing skills needed to succeed in the business world. The Commerce Society strives to be a part of the greater SMU community by working with many departments, such as the Alumni Office, Career Services, SMUSA, and other student societies. Amy Onano is a fourth-year commerce student pursuing a major in Economics. Amy is from the twin island nation of Antigua and Barbuda, with Italian parentage. Her deep-rooted interest in bettering the community has led her to join various societies such as Enactus, SMUs Caribbean Society and SMU Friends of Halo, just to name a few. Amy is friendly, hardworking, driven and is determined in assisting students develop connections and other necessary skills that are useful in the commerce world. Amy seeks to ensure that international students, such as herself, surpass any cultural barriers and is dedicated to supporting our members in external relations such as networking through the commerce society.

Sarah Bell is a third-year student majoring in Marketing. She was born and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and has previously completed a Biology degree from Dalhousie University. Having been a transfer student, Sarah jumped at the opportunity to be a part of the Commerce Society so she could become more involved within the Community. As the Public Relations Director she will be distributing the weekly newsletter, managing the social media accounts, and planning community outreach events.


Ki-Jana Rashaan Bowers is a fourth year Accounting and Economics major. He was born and raised in Antigua and is a a graduate of the Antigua State College. Friendly by nature paired with his genuine care for people and being a good communicator, Ki-Jana positively impacts all he comes into contact with. Although not one for the spotlight, Mr. Bowers is a hard and efficient worker, qualities which served him well in his role as President of the Interact Club of the Antigua State College, and will aid him substantially in his role as Financial Director of the Sobey School of Business Commerce Society. Connect on LinkedIn


Yousef Farahat is a second year Bachelor of Commerce Student seeking a double major in Computing & Information Systems and Management. He has a diverse background in possible career paths on different parts of the Earth as he has lived on three different continents. He has explored various industries through filling diversified roles during his gap year. Yousef is the Professional Development Director at the Sobey School of Business Commerce Society and also a Mathematics Tutor at the Math Help Centre of the Sobey School of Business. He is always excited to organize professional development events and exchange professional insights on enhancing professional skills such as Teamwork, Leadership and Networking art.
